Who jumped from space to Earth – Felix Baumgartner.

Skydiving is a thrilling experience for those who love adventure. Jumping above 10,000 feet is usually called skydiving. But hearing what Felix Baumgartner did 10 years ago makes your heart flutter. He jumped from the edge of space, about 127,852 feet or 38,969.4 meters above the Earth.

Felix Baumgartner is an Austrian skydiver who streamed this epic jump on YouTube on October 14, 2012, setting 8 world records at the time. He descended at supersonic speed in this jump which was an incredible feat.

Felix’s inspiration for this adventurous jump was Captain Joe Kittinger, a citizen of the United States who jumped from 102,800 feet in 1960. Joe Kittinger did this with only 33 jumps. Felix Baumgartner was known as an experienced skydiver who had made thousands of jumps before his jump. His main objective was to achieve supersonic speed in this jump. And he was completely successful in that.

This skydiving project was completed with 20 million dollars and 5 years of planning through the project called the ‘Red Bull Stratos Project’. Through this, new ideas are obtained about how much the human body can survive in extreme conditions. All concerned had to keep in mind many risks in this skydiving plan. A separate pressure suit was made for Felix which the pilots wear.

Excessive motion can cause blood to boil in people without a pressure suit. So if there was any problem with this pressure suit, Felix could have died in just 15 seconds. There was also the risk of problems with the parachute. A helium balloon had to be specially designed to take Felix to the edge of space.

On October 14, 2012, Felix Baumgartner started his journey from New Mexico, USA. After climbing for 90 minutes, he was ready to jump from 127,852 feet or 38,969.4 meters. After jumping, he reached a speed of 843 MP/h or 1357.6 km/h in just 50 seconds, which is faster than the speed of sound (767 MP/h). He continued to fall for about 4 minutes and 30 seconds before hitting the ground. He opened his parachute at 8421.3 feet or 2566.8 meters above sea level and stepped onto the ground.

In this jump, he broke 8 world records. He was the first person to achieve supersonic speeds in free fall. Besides, he also broke the record for jumping with a parachute from the highest height at that time. However, this record did not last long. Two years later in 2014, Alan Eustace of the United States broke this record by jumping from a height of 135,898 feet or 41,422 meters.

77 TV channels together showed live the scene of his adventurous jump. He also held the record for the most views of a live-streamed video on YouTube at the time. The scene was captured by 15 cameras, 5 of which were attached to his suit.

Currently, Felix serves the people as an acrobatic helicopter pilot and firefighter. He doesn’t want to do such adventures anymore. He told the Daily Mail in an interview that he has handed it over to the next generation. He has proved that people can do many extraordinary things with their courage and spirit from such adventurous skydiving in Guinness World Records. He has become a name of inspiration for the youth.
